Cinnamon & Flamingoes

Summer is nearly over, but my passion for fruit juice lasts all year. That, and my love for cinnamon. Cinnamon is more of an autumnal spice, so we might say the recipe I'm about to write down is kind of transitional, perfect for this season.

My love for cinnamon sparked a couple of years ago, before that day I couldn't even stand the smell of it. I don't know what changed, but one day I started craving cinnamon rolls, and from then on I began to add cinnamon everywhere, while baking and in cappuccinos, but I never thought of adding it to my juices.

In June I went out for an aperitivo with friends and I tried a non-alcoholic drink I'd never seen before, called Cinnamon Tropical. The bartender told me she had just made up the recipe and wasn't even sure I would like it, but right after the first sip I knew it was love. I went back to the bartender to congratulate on her creativity, and jotted down the recipe on my phone. Her recipe was the following:

Cinnamon Tropical
  • Pineapple juice
  • Orange juice
  • Grenadine
  • Sweet & sour
  • Cinnamon

She topped my drink with a slice of orange, some edible flowers and a couple of marshmallows.

I've already tested the recipe at home and I made some changes to adapt it to what I already had in my kitchen cupboards. Since I still love this mix as much as the first day, I decided to share it on my blog.

My go-to ingredients are:
  • Pineapple juice 250ml
  • Orange juice 250ml
  • A spoonful of Raspberry syrup
  • Half a teaspoon of sugar
  • A teaspoon of lemon juice
  • A pinch of cinnamon

I put them inside a plastic bottle and shake them well before serving, and when I'm in need of a fancy drink I also add a slice of lemon and a flamingo pick (how pretty is that?).

That's all for today, I hope you enjoyed this sort of random summery post.

Feel free to leave a comment if you know any good recipe with cinnamon, be it cake or another drink or anything sweet.

  1. I think you need to open a pub with cool shakes and cocktails like that because it sounds (?) delicious!
Even if I don't like cinnamon I might give it a try
