Bar Luce, Milan

Remember when I told you about visiting Pasticceria Marchesi with mum? (In case you have missed that post, you can read it here) On the same day mum and I went to Fondazione Prada in Milan, as I had been wanting to visit Bar Luce, the café designed by Wes Anderson, for quite a while.

First of all, let's say that the light that day was wonderful. My mum and I got the underground to the nearest station and then walked a bit in the sun. When we arrived at the location, we took a walk around the buildings before moving on to the café. I must say this place is truly a hidden gem, as the area that surrounds it doesn't seem to offer too many attractions and overall gives a feeling of scruffiness that's typical of that part of the city that's not usually explored by tourists. Entering Fondazione Prada in a sunny afternoon like this made me feel really peaceful and calm.

Once we entered Bar Luce, the first thought that crossed my mind was that it was much smaller than I expected. I immediately fell in love with the ceiling and the wallpaper though, so don't worry, in the end I was not at all disappointed.

The look of this café is a perfect mix between what you would expect from a place designed by Wes Anderson and a typical bar milanese from the fifties or sixties. The shape of the counter, the food and drinks displayed on the shelves, everything covered in blue-green Formica laminate (I have a silly obsession for this material, I love love love vintage furniture that's made of Formica). The overall look was definitely up my street, my favourite bit must be the square armchair with a tiny table attached to it.

My mum ordered an espresso and a tiny rice pudding, while I went for the fancy pink cake and a cappuccino. The quality of the food is great but not above average for a fancy place in Milan. Though my cake was A+, I expected them to have weirder dessert options, if that makes sense.

Anyway, all in all I really loved this place, I'm super happy I got to visit it on such a nice day and I would definitely recommend it to anyone, or go back again if I had a chance.

Have you ever been to Bar Luce?
